Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the party access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
